Progress is an important part of being human. We feel great when we’re setting goals for ourselves and seeing them through. Whether it’s the beginning of the year or a fresh start we’ve created for ourselves, we can plan and implement goals that will help us move forward in our chosen path.
In fitness, diet, martial arts, and more, setting and achieving goals is vital to progress, and with some quick tips on crafting these goals, we can come away with boxes checked and progress earned.
Make them Achievable
There’s a line, when creating goals, between being difficult yet achievable and being impossible. The key to creating a great goal is to toe that line, where you’re pushing yourself harder than you otherwise may have, but not setting yourself up for failure. One way to decide what’s doable is to break your goal up into chunks and adjust future goals if necessary.
Deal in Measurements
When creating a goal, think about whether or not it’s trackable. Can you easily mark your progress by, say, doing a weigh-in or looking at your bank account? Goals you create for yourself should be measurable and provide you with an easy way to track your progress along the way. Saying that you want to “be better” at something doesn’t necessarily explain what would prove that you’ve gotten better.
Prioritize What Matters Most
We often get into mindsets of wanting to accomplish a lot over a short period of time, but what this can sometimes do is lead to exhaustion and depletion of willpower. In order to be able to stay on track, prioritize your goals based on what’s most important to you, then work in other, less desired, goals as backups.
